Get Wimbledon ready at local open day

Wimbledon is fast approaching so the new and improved Hayling Island tennis courts are having an open day.

The day will include free coaching sessions from Ace Tennis Academy, a chance to hear about what is on offer at the courts and to enter a free prize draw.

Partnership work between Havant Borough Council and the Lawn Tennis Association has funded the refurbishment of the courts; which included resurfacing, new court markings and a new entry and booking system.

Changes in the way these courts are managed will ensure good quality and sustainable tennis facilities. Annual membership costs just £35; alternatively courts can be hired for £7 an hour.

The open day’s free prize draw will give all who sign-up on the day for annual membership the chance to win a £50 shopping voucher.

Staff will be on site during the event to answer any queries you might have and to showcase the new booking system.

The event will be held on 1 July between 10am-2pm at the Hayling Island tennis courts, Station Road, Hayling Island, PO11 0HB.

Refreshments will be available and everyone is welcome.

The tennis courts will be managed by the Hayling Island Community Centre Association (HICCA).

Councillor Leah Turner, Cabinet Lead for Communities and Housing, said: “We are very pleased that together with the Lawn Tennis Association we have been able to refurbish the tennis courts in Hayling Park.

“We hope to continue the court refurbishments across Havant borough and expect the courts to be well used – particularly in the wonderful weather we are having.”
