Spotlight on Holcombe Brook ladies after Rosebowl victory

HOLCOMBE Brook Ladies retained the Liebert Rosebowl Cup after a hard-fought victory over the Northern Lawn Tennis Club, of Didsbury.

The popular club's latest trophy to add to a bustling cabinet was further evidence of the good work taking place at Holcombe Brook.

They have boosted membership recently after signing up to the new Ladies Autumn Tennis League, with matches played over a set 90 minutes under floodlights on the club's all-weather courts.

A spokeswoman for Holcombe Brook said: "We are trying to break down barriers and myths that tennis is a summer sport.

"The autumn league has attracted more than 40 ladies, who compete across Bury and Bolton every Tuesday.

"Offering timed matches has made an impact.

"It means players can plan their home life around the matches, while a 7pm start time also appeals.

"Rain does not stop play either.
