COURT OPENING DAY

After a week of torrential downpours & high winds, Saturday 12th August 2017 saw the grand opening of the new tennis courts.  Crowds turned out for the free tennis event on the courts & recreation Ground.  Councillor Philippa Hart & Chairman Richard Evans cut the ribbon and in her speech she thanked the Committee (see picture) and particularly Christine Knight for her hard work in raising the £62,000 for the new court build,  both Philippa and Christine were presented with flowers by the Chairman.

On the village recreation  ground all ages were able to try out mini tennis, a hitting wall, table tennis and the “dusbin challenge”  the latter seeing how many balls could be hit into the dustbins, this proved very popular and addictive.  The winner with a score of 5 out of 10  was Nicky Sell who won a tube of balls.

The tennis sessions on the two courts were very popular with the tots 3-5 year olds, enjoying their first tennis, fun & games session, this was followed up by the minis 6-10 and then juniors.  Meanwhile on the court 1  Matt Fellingham,  Meldreth’s head coach, was putting the adults through some serious drills then a Service speed gun challenge which was won  by Clive Maggs with a 82mph serve he received a tube of balls as a prize.  The final session was a very energetic cardio tennis one.

Raffle prizes were donated by the LTA and 2 Topspin £25 vouchers were won, a MTC tee shirt & tubes of balls.

The day ended with new memberships being taken & coaching courses being booked  Thanks goes to everyone who helped on the day to make it such a success
