Mellor reached the semi-final of the Acton Cup playing against Bramhall Lane last night (31 August) for a place in the final. Sadly, but not surprisingly we lost.
Claire Brentnall and Rob Jordan put in sterling efforts in their singles matches. Both lost to youngsters who play for GB under 16's! The teenagers were awesome and the rallies were fantastic to watch.
The same cannot be said for Trudy Broadhead and Nick Jordan who played in the mixed doubles. They seemed to be on court for no more than 5 minutes before being whooped 6-0 6-0. It was a challenge for them just to make contact with the ball!
Jane Whitham and Alison Hodgson were up against 2 ladies who play in the premier league. Our ladies worked really hard and played fantastic tennis to gain 2 games in each set.
The stars of the night were Matt McNulty and Shaun Murray who managed to clinch our only result of the evening, winning a 3 set match.
The tennis was made more exciting by having a great troupe of supporters; thank you Hilary Taylor, Jenny Hiscock, Jane Morris, Alison Bowden, Alf Marshall, Mike McNulty, Nick Lindley, Keith Gordan, Bill Eley for coming to Bramhall Lane cheering the team on.
