Mirfield Mixed Open success

The weather was kind to us for the 5th annual Mirfield Mixed Open which took place on Saturday 7th Sepember.

The club warmly welcomed players from Shepley, Ackworth, Elland and Longley tennis clubs, and together with Mirfield members, a total of 14 pairs took part in the tournament – a very respectable turn out.

Pairs were drawn into two sections with the top two pairs in each section making up the semi-finals. Semi-finalist winners Helen Carbutt and Andy Shackleton from Mirfield played Simon and Katie Shorthouse from Shepley TC in a hard fought final with Andy and Helen eventually winning 6-2 to successfully defend their title.

The club would like to thank everyone who took part in the tournament, all those who provided a delightful array of cakes to keep the energy levels up, Sharon Lee for taking charge of kitchen and photo duties… and finally it was lovely to see Geoff Robinson back in charge of scoring duties – as always he did a magnificent job keeping the games flowing and players in order with a little assistance from Blue Cockroft.

Next up on the competition front is the men’s floodlight doubles!
