LTA confirms that Wimbledon 2020 has been cancelled

Due to the Coronavirus crisis, following a series of emergency meetings this week, the LTA has officially confirmed the cancellation of all grass court events leading up to, and including, the 2020 Wimbledon Championships.

The Wimbledon Championships will now take place in the summer of 2021.  See the LTA website for further details.

This means that Park Tennis Club's Wimbledon Draw, for the chance to purchase a pair of sought after tickets to the Championships, will no longer be taking place.

LTA ballots in 2020 will not be rolled over to 2021. This difficult decision has been made by the LTA as a result of the following considerations:

  • The LTA ballot period for the 2020 Championships began quite recently; with only 4 weeks into a 12 week period, ballots must now cease
  • It would be unfair to exclude LTA members whose ballots have not yet been run
  • The LTA will not receive an increased number of tickets for the Championships in 2021

The decision has not been taken lightly by the LTA and no exceptions will be made.

See LTA’s Help Pages for further details.

Interesting facts about Wimbledon:

  • Tennis has its origins in a 13th-century French handball game called jeu de paume, or game of the palm
  • The Wimbledon Championships have taken place at the Old England Club in Wimbledon, London, since 1877
  • This is the first time since 1945 that Wimbledon will not be staged
