To climb, or not to climb

Members of Park Tennis Club participated in an annual walk organised and led by Angela Riley from Queens Tennis Club.

Setting off in breezy, yet fine, weather from Soyland Town Road, walkers followed the public footpath leading downhill towards Mill Bank before crossing the A58 Halifax Road into Ripponden Woods.  A wooden bridge allowed the group to cross the River Ryburn and venture down Hangingstones Lane towards Ripponden, where The Old Bridge Inn awaited the thirsty walkers.

After much squandering of time at the Inn, the splintered group wended their way up the ultra-steep, not for the faint-hearted, Royd and Stoney Lanes, before finally arriving at Angela’s home to a welcoming hot/cold communal buffet with refreshments.

Some stayed longer at the Inn to whet their thirst, only to find their jackets became equally as wet when the heavens opened up on their climb back to Soyland Town.

Our thanks go to Angela for inviting Park members to join her on a wonderful winter walk, and for hosting a wonderful buffet in her home at an annual event she’s organised for the past twenty years.  Thank you, Angela!
