Newsletter 24th July 2020

Hello PLTC Member

As we approach the end of July, we thought it would be a good time to email to tell you what has been happening and what is coming up at the Club.

Fun Friday

There are still a few places available for Fun Friday this week (24th July) and this week sees the start of PLTC getting back to the “new normal”, with an increase in the numbers of Juniors allowed in each group, as well as the eagerly anticipated return of the “Hot Dogs and Tuck Shop”!

Can we please remind parents that we are currently operating a cashless bar with only card payments allowed, and we would like to operate the Hot Dogs and Tuck Shop in the same way if possible, although we do understand that the kids often like to pay in cash!

If you would like to book your child’s place for Fun Friday you can still do so at;

www.clubspark.lta.org.uk/prentonlawntennisclub/coaching

Summer Holiday Camps

We have been inundated with bookings for our Multi Sport Holiday Camps this summer and have even managed to eclipse the total bookings we had last year already.

There are still a few spaces left for each week but be quick if you want to avoid disappointment.

To guarantee your child’s place please visit our website at www.tennisvision.co.uk/holiday-camps

For any more information please contact Chris Thelwall on 07764 748133 or info@tennisvision.co.uk

Group Tennis Lessons

After careful consideration, we have decided that all our Junior Group Coaching Lessons will restart again in September, just after the schools go back. An email will be sent out shortly with a list of sessions available.

Individual Lessons

We are happy to confirm that our coaches are continuing to work on an individual basis throughout the Summer Holidays, so please get in touch with us if you wish to book any one to one private lessons by calling Chris Thelwall on 07764 748133.

Social Tennis

There has been such a great response to Adult Social Tennis since it was relaunched, and it has been great to see so many new and old faces coming down and mixing in together. This is exactly what PLTC is all about.

Sunday Social is also starting to get off the ground as well, so remember, Wednesday from 6.30pm and Sundays from 3.00pm is where to get your weekly fix of Social Tennis.

All abilities are welcome, and it is a great way into tennis at PLTC. No fees, no pressure, no expectations, just bring your racket along and you will be made to feel welcome.

And remember, even if you only joined to play with your own children, it is never too late to consider upgrading, so you too can enjoy Adult Social Tennis. If you think you might enjoy this, why not come down and have a free trial.

Handicap Tournament

The Committee are in the process of formulating our annual Handicap Tournament, and as always this will feature Men’s and Ladies Singles, Men’s and Ladies Doubles and a Mixed Doubles competition.

We encourage everyone to get involved in this no matter what your standard of tennis is. There is no need to worry about partners as they are ‘drawn out of the hat’ by the Competition Committee. Also you do not need to worry about your own ability level either, as all entrants are given their own unique handicap by our Handicapping Committee, meaning all games are fair and competitive.

We are aiming to start the opening rounds in early August with the finals being held on Saturday 3rd October. Full details on how to enter will follow soon, so get on court and start practicing!

Running/Walking/Cycling Club

We are also pleased to announce that the running/walking/cycling club ‘Hope4All’ is now based here at PLTC.

They are a friendly, sociable group and pride themselves on being inclusive. Everyone is welcome no matter what level of ability and they are here to support, encourage, motivate and inspire everyone that joins.

Meeting times are;

Tuesdays -6.45pm                          walkers and runners

Thursdays - 6.45pm                        walkers, runners and cyclists

Saturdays - varies                            runners

Sundays - 9.30 am                          cyclists

Tips and Etiquette

And finally, as we have so many new members at the Club (some of which have never held a racket before), we thought it would be a good idea to start up a “Tips and Etiquette” section for our Newsletter.

This should be a great way to enhance everyone’s enjoyment of the game and make everyone feel confident and comfortable with the rules, expectations and etiquette associated with this great game.

Today’s Tips and Etiquette is about mindfulness of other people’s games. All players (and spectators) should be mindful of games taking place around them, and no attempt should be made to enter or exit the courts whilst any points are actively being played on those courts. It is polite to wait for a break in play before attempting to enter or exit the gates or cross any courts.

Stay tuned for more Tips and Etiquette in our upcoming Newsletters.

Well that’s about it for now and we look forward to seeing you at the Club soon.

Regards

 PLTC Committee
