Our Over 60’s tournament was held on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th June.
Saturday
The tournament kicked off on a warm and sunny day with the Mixed Doubles Event.
The new format of shorter sets worked well and gave players the opportunity to fit in more matches and still have the energy for their other events on the Sunday.
There were some very close fought matches throughout the day with the winners of each group playing in the final at the end of the day.
Finalists, Chris and Stuart versus Pippa and Geoff could not have had a closer match, which ended in a nail-biting tie break.
Congratulations to Chris and Stuart our Mixed Doubles winners and well done to runners up Pippa and Geoff.
What better way to end a great day of tennis with a BBQ, drinks and great company. Thanks to Terry to organising the BBQ and standing over the food and for adding the cheese to Geoff’s mystery burger!
Sunday
The weather wasn’t quite so good to us on the Sunday with a few light showers, but rain didn’t stop play. The Ladies and Men’s Doubles ran alongside each other with some similarly close matches.
Ladies
Congratulations to Pippa and Greta who won all of their matches and were overall winners and well done to runners up Chris and Gita who won 2 out of their 3 matches.
Men's
Congratulations to winners Stuart and Geoff and well done to runners up Ken and Joe.
Thank you to everyone who took part and made this a great event, helping us celebrate the club's 50th anniversary. Thank you also to Stuart for organising and running the tournament, Terry for the BBQ and to Alison for presenting the awards and Mandy W for photography.
