Before Jake’s 11th birthday, his father predicted that he would surpass his three elder brothers in their tennis prowess before reaching 21. Unfortunately, the fates had a different view as serious health issues were diagnosed before his 12th birthday, viz Ulcerative Colitis and Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (liver disease).
This changed priorities. Tennis, schooling and all normal developments became secondary to trying to “fix him”. Nearly 14 years later, minus one large bowel and with a second hand liver he’s back on track.
Within two years of gaining a liver transplant and less than 12 months after more than 3 years of 24/7 O2, he has won medals at his first Transplant Games held in Nottingham at the beginning of August.
A bronze at Table Tennis and brushing all competition aside to take the gold at Tennis in his age range (18 - 29).
