New Membership / Bar Cards

We are pleased to announce that Swansea Tennis and Squash Club will be introducing new membership / bar cards over the next few weeks. These cards will be your ID as a member of the club and will entitle you, on presentation at the bar, to the discounted members bar prices. It is hoped that we will shortly progress to using the cards for other purposes such as access to the club house. Members will be given a standard card and a circular sticker (which could be stuck on a phone/ wallet/ racket! etc). Both act in the same way and will access the same bar account. Every card has an NFC chip that can be scanned by any phone for quick and easy access to the club website to book courts etc. Further details to follow.

Defibrillator training

Many thanks to Tesni and Craig who held 2 sessions to a full house of members. A very worthwhile exercise. Donations are still accepted at the bar.

Evolve Physiotherapy

We welcome Lee Watkins to the club and further details will follow on this provision.

Squash

Heaters

The squash court heaters on all courts are now working, having been repaired and fully serviced. Due to the increasing costs of energy tariffs, can we ask members to use the heaters sparingly, and ensure they turn the heaters and lights off at the end of a session.

Ladies Mix in squash night will recommence on Fridays @ 5.30 from Sept 9th. All ladies of any ability are welcome. Just turn up on the night.

Geoff Thomas Memorial Tournament.

The first squash tournament for a long while saw 30 entrants from all over South Wales playing over the Bank Holiday weekend.  The quality of matches created an excellent spectacle for those who came to watch. Whilst our club players didn't take all the trophies, we must congratulate all those who made the finals; Rich Hall, Rhodri Hughes, Justin Nemeth, Cameron White, Tom Rosser and Dan Anderson. Dan played superb squash to take the inaugural GTM trophy awarded by a surprise visitor and friend of Geoff's, Brian Phillips, himself an ex-World Masters Champion.

Thank you to everyone who took part.

Tennis

Tension cross wires that hold up the fences and windbreaks broken by strong winds need to be replaced before the winter. We have a contractor coming in and the work is estimated to take 1-2 days, depending on the weather.

Please bear with the team who will try to minimise any inconvenience to players.  A long fence weighs between 1.0 tonne and 1.3 tonnes - so we need them fixed!

Reminder; new Tennis balls are available to buy at the bar. Please recycle your old ones in the containers under the balcony and in the bar.

Social Events

Polish Visit - 12/13th September

On what was probably the hottest weekend of the year, we welcomed 8 Polish visitors from a club in Warsaw. Having met them at an ITF tournament in Manacor at the Rafa Nadal Academy last November, we were keen to give them the opportunity to play lots of competitive and social tennis

We kicked off on Saturday with a singles tournament, organised by Jo. All matches were extremely close and of high quality with Swansea winning the inaugural trophy. In the afternoon, Jo organised an American tournament, which was followed by afternoon tea.

On Sunday, Ellinore organised a very enjoyable doubles tournament. Again the matches were well balanced with Swansea narrowly winning the trophy

Netti, Jeff, Wendy, Kerry and Helen ensured their spare time was filled with visits to Pennard golf club followed by a swim at Pobbles beach, Bracelet Bay, and a trip to Langland on the Monday morning. Sunday evening was spent sampling the delights of the Thai Bach. Overall, a very successful event.
