Club News

The club was pleased to be able to host the wake for Allan Crocombe. Club chairman for 7 years, fellow members provided the following tributes:

Allan was a squash player through and through, a talented player with a sharp aggressive style and a ferocious and uncompromising opponent with no quarter given or asked for. Off court, and in life, he could be equally uncompromising, with strong views about what was right and wrong. Above all Allan was a loyal friend who looked out for his friends and offered his uncompromising loyalty and support to his club and his teams, always ready to help out, even if it meant, after a long day in work, driving to Teifi on a wet foggy night in December to help out a struggling team! He was a true individual who will be remembered with fondness and respect by all who knew him.

Whilst Allan will be remembered with fondness by all those who knew him at the club and the wider squash community in South Wales where he was a familiar face, he will especially be remembered by the Friday and Sunday night club night players where he was a regular, both on court and in the bar afterwards! Allan was not only a club and squash historian with an almost encyclopaedic knowledge of his beloved sport, but a fascinating and well read conversationalist, his presence will be remembered with great affection by that group in particular.

I’ll miss him flying around in his battered old Astra, his knowledge of squash and  his principled unselfish attitude to helping the club to develop such that others could enjoy it in the way he did.
