New Castle Grounds tennis courts set to open

Get ready for game, set and match, as Tamworth Borough Council open their newly refurbished tennis courts in the Castle Grounds this Easter holiday, for a free two-hour coaching session for children aged five to 12 years.

The tennis courts have been refurbishment at a total cost of £177,000, thanks to section 106 money and Tamworth Borough Council capital funding granted in 2020 as part of the Castle Grounds play area renovation that has seen a total of £350,000 of work completed.

The project has delivered a brand-new playground, picnic benches, relocated outdoor gym equipment, table tennis tables and the resurfaced tennis courts.

In addition, a new online booking system for the refurbished tennis courts will be managed by MicroSports, who will also deliver the free two-hour coaching sessions for children from 1.30pm to 3.30pm on Tuesday 11 April and Wednesday 12 April.

The new tennis courts now have an all-weather surface providing a multi-sport access and be available for hire all year round for sports including tennis and five-a-side football. The refurbishment has also included improvements to the access gates and external fencing and lighting.
