Ramsey Tennis Club held the annual LTA Grade 4 Ramsey Town Cup 12 - 19 August 2023, on the courts in the Mooragh Park.

There were 5 events Men’s singles/doubles Ladies singles/doubles and a Mixed doubles.

In the Men’s singles , top seed Marc Chinn won both his Q/F and S/F 6-0 6-0 against Lewis Ollier and Nick Reeder respectively. In the other half of the draw second seed Nerijus Gricevicius won his Q/F against James Furnival 6-1 6-0 but Jon Gower-Jackson pushed him in the S/F before Nerijus came through 7-5 6-3. In the Final Marc was too strong, taking the title 6-1 6-1.

The Men’s Consolation Final between Andrew Maxwell and James Furnival, Andrew coping better with the blustery conditions winning 6-2 6-1.

In the Ladies singles , unfortunately one of the players had to withdraw on the day , due to illness, leaving just 4 Ladies, both Sarah Long and Caitlin Henery came through their semi finals 6-0 6-0 against Libby Moore and Jenni Devine. The Final produced some good tennis from both Ladies with Sarah winning 6-2 6-1.

In the Men’s doubles the first and second seeds, Marc Chinn/Jos Woolford and Nerijus Gricevicius/Henk Wessels had a bye to the semi finals. The two Q/F matches were very close with Andrew Maxwell/Nick Reeder beating Adam Davies/Kevin Drewry 6-4 7-6 and Jon Gower-Jackson/Leon Henery defeating David Andrews/Richard Simpson by the same score. S/F Marc/Jos bt Jon/Leon 6-0 6-0 with Neri/Henk beating Andrew/Nick 6-2 6-3. The Final was played in very windy conditions with Marc/Jos taking the title 6-3 6-2.

The Ladies doubles had 4 pairs entered , so was run as a r/robin. Anna Kirk/Sarah Long won all their 3 matches, so took the title, the runners up were Cathy Tsitsos/Michele Simpson who won their other two matches.

The final event, the Mixed doubles was a draw for partners with 5 pairs taking part, in a r/robin. The draw had evenly matched the players with each pair winning at least one match. The runners up were Sanshia Tumblety/Colin Beaven who won 2 of their 4 matches. The winners were Caitlin Henery/Richard Simpson who won all 4 of their matches , although one was a sudden death tie-break point to secure the title.
