This was the men’s last match of the year and were hoping to end the league with another win and an enjoyable match. With a bit of worry that the match may be called off to rain we were lucky that it did dry up and had some lovely weather for it. The team for this match was Nick and Chris as the A pair and Sonny and Peter as the B pair.
Nick and Chris’s first match started of well with it going with serve and with very close games all the way up to 5-5 but unfortunately Launceston managed to grab the last two game to win the first set 7-5. The second set followed the same way with Launceston winning just slightly quicker with a score of 6-4. Against the B pair it didn’t go Veryan’s way. Launceston managed to push through the games with Veryan only picking up a few games losing the first set 6-2. The second set didn’t go much better, but they did manage to pick up an extra game, losing 6-3.
Sonny and Peter fought hard in their first match and like Chris and Nick had two very close games and despite having some chances to win it they couldn’t get over the line and lost both set 7-5, 6-4. Their second match didn’t start of well with the Launceston side taking the games and with the first set being lost 6-2. Unfortunately for the Launceston pair one of them picked up an injury and couldn’t play anymore so Veryan won the match with a walk over.
The final score of this match was 9-2 to Launceston which wasn’t the result we wanted but it was still a good a match and means that Veryan will end the league in fourth place.
