Veryan Men's team at home to Newquay E

For the second match of the season, we had our first home match against Newquay E. The weather was a bit cloudy but not much wind and was a lovely temperature for the match. We had a strong team out this time with Sonny and Mark being the A pair and Luke and Peter being the B pair.

Sonny and Mark had a close first set with them gaining a bit of a lead to begin with but the opponents making a comeback to close the gap, but they managed to hold to win the first set 6-4. The second set started with a break down but then they rallied back to win the next 6 games to close out the second set 6-1. The second match was much tougher and a lot closer with the scores staying even most of the way through the first set with Newquay pinching it at 7-5. The second set went smoother with a 6-2 victory. This meant a 10-point tie break, Veryan started well with managing to get a lead and got to 8-3 but Newquay pushed back to get it to 8-8, they then kept it even until Veryan managed to breakthrough for a 12-10 victory.

Luke and Peter struggled to get going in their first set with the opponents keeping up the pressure and managing to claim the first set 6-2. In the second set Veryan fought back and after a close match they managed to win the second set 6-4. The 10-point tie break was another close one but unfortunately Veryan never managing to get their noses in front lost 10-7. For the second match started better with Veryan quickly winning the first set 6-2. The second set started well with them quickly getting 3-0 up but Newquay fought back to go 5-3, Veryan then managed to win a game before losing the next one to lose the set 6-4. This means another 10 point tie break with Veryan managing to stay in front and getting to 8-5 before Newquay coming back to 8-8, luckily Veryan concentrated again and managed to seal the victory 10-2.

The result was a 9-4 victory to Veryan. It was a lovely match that was well spirited and enjoyed by all. We all then tucked into the food afterwards and enjoyed being able to sit after a very long evening of tennis.
