Veryan move up to joint 2nd in the league with only 5 games left to play

At the halfway point in the league, we are 3rd in the league whilst being 6 points behind second place which was held by Truro D. With a chance to take back 2nd place everyone was raring to go and play to win and with the sun shining we were hopeful to do it. The team for today was Nick and Chris as the A pair and Sonny and Luke as the B pair.

Nick and Chris were hard pressed by the A pair with some good rallies and long games they managed to win both sets, but they were both close sets with the end results being 7-5, 7-5. However, with the B pair they had a far more comfortable game and cruised through the sets, winning 6-0, 6-2.

Luke and Sonny had a bit more difficult of a time as they were slow to find their rhythm. They managed to sneak in the first set against the B pair at 7-5 but unfortunately couldn’t keep the momentum going and lost the second set 6-2. This took it to a 10-point tie break. It stayed quite even for a while but sadly Truro took the win 10-6. Against the A pair it started of well with them winning the first 3 games and them losing a game and winning the next three to win the set 6-1, the second set started off more evenly with it going with serve until 3-3 then Truro got some momentum and won the next three to win the second set taking it to another 10-point tie break. Luke and Sonny started off much better in this game always having the advantage of points and manged to make a break and got to 9-4, then Truro found some rhythm and won the next 4 points but luckily Veryan kept their heads and managed to win the next point and won the tie break.

The final score for this match was 9-3 to Veryan, which means they are now joint second in the league with Truro with only 5 games left to play. It was an enjoyable evening with some good games and another good spread from Veryan for their second to last home match.
