Veryan Men's team in 3rd place, chasing 2nd

With it being a lovely day and the joys of playing on the clay courts that Newquay have everyone was excited to play. With the hopes of getting some good points to keep up the leader board the team was raring to go.

The team for this match was a youngster team with Nick, Sonny, Luke and Oliver has come back from Uni and playing his first match of the year. The pairs were Nick and Oliver as the A pair and Luke and Sonny as the B pair. Nick and Oliver didn’t go off with the best start against Newquay’s A pair which also had a youngster in it. Despite their best efforts the Newquay pair just wouldn’t let up the attack so they only walked away with two games between the two sets. However, they fought well against the B pair with it being a lot closer match. The first set went 7-5 to Newquay but in the second set the score flipped as the tactic to win became more clear. With the Newquay pair getting more rattled as the match continued into the 10 point tie break Nick Oliver managed to get a lead going and it looked promising as they got to 9-4 lead. But slowly the Newquay pair fought back to 9-8 but luckily on the next point after a very good serve from Nick the ball sailed long and Veryan won the match.

Luke and Sonny also had a very hard time. Despite playing really well and many of the games having many deuces they fell short on many occasion. In their first match against the B pair their first game had about 7 deuces in it which showed the way the match was going to go, despite all the games being so close and could of gone either way they only walked away with two games in both the sets. The second match didn’t go much better with still many games going to deuce they couldn’t get their toes over the line and walked away with 3 games in the two sets.

The final score for this match was 9-2 to Newquay  which leaves Veryan third in the league only being 5 points behind second which they should be able to catch with 4 more matches left to play.
