A very anticipated match against the leaders of the group

With no concerns about the weather today it was a very anticipated match against the leaders of the group which up to that point had only dropped 4 points in 5 matches so were going to be hard to beat. The pairs for today were Sonny and Luke, and Peter and Chris. Newquay played quite an interesting tactic by letting their better pair be the B pair for this match.

Luke and Sonny started of the night well against the A pair with a hold and a break of serve but after losing a game then won the next three to take the score to 5-2 but with many of the games having at least 2 deuces in them and some with many more, but after dropping another game they managed to close it out with the final score of 6-2. In the second set it didn’t go quite so well with every game they won in the first set they lost and the games they lost they won, flipping the scores around and taking it to a 10-point tie break. During the tie break Newquay won the first 5 points but then Veryan rallied and won the next 5 to even it up. Then there was a bit of back and forth but sadly Newquay came out on top and won the tie break 10-7. Against the B pair it didn’t go any better. With a good fight Luke and Sonny only managed to walk away with 3 games during the two sets, being unable to find any gaps to exploit.

Despite it being Peter’s debut match he was unable to gain many points this match. Against the B pair they were quite unlucky and couldn’t find any weak spots and walked away without a game after the two sets. Against the B pair they had more luck with more rallies and finding their footing more to try and win some more games. Unfortunately, they were unlucky again but managed to get one game in the second set, so they weren’t bageled twice again.

Even though the matches hadn’t gone our way it was still a very enjoyable evening with lovely games played and a very nice atmosphere. As always Veryan provided a very nice spread that went down well and had some nice conversation to finish off the day.
