MEN'S A, B and C MATCHES
Wychwoods Tennis Club has 3 mens teams competing in the Oxfordshire Summer and Winter Leagues.
A team - Simon Lyle
B team - Chris Powley
C team - Rob Whitehouse
The Mens A team have just completed the Oxfordshire Babolat Summer League Division 2, achieving 26 points and finishing in 5th place.
This really was a topsy turvy season! 3 matches in we had experienced 3 losses and gained only 5 points - sitting in the relegation zone, it wasn't looking good! Thankfully the next 4 matches resulted in 2 wins, 1 loss, 1 draw and an accumulation of 21 points elevating us to mid table. Playing at home proved to be a considerable advantage. The league leaders, one of whose players turned up in a Cambridge University Team tennis top (slightly intimidating!), were even kept at bay on the final day which was particularly satisfying.
Players representing the Mens A Team were: Simon Lyle (Captain), Giles Henderson, Mark Saunders, Russell Taylor, Ian Adlington, Peter Barnes, Julian Ash, and Simon Mobray.
A big thanks to all the players commitment in helping us achieve a successful summer season.

The Men’s B team finished a nail-biting summer season by winning Division 6 of the Oxfordshire Babolat Summer League, making it a hat trick of summer championships.
Huge congratulations and many thanks to everyone who played for the team in the course of the season: Andy Muddle, Brad Payne, Chris Eades, Craig Ogden, David Stott, Duncan Sedgwick, John Passey, Pat Edginton, and Chris Powley (capt).
The last highlight was our final match of the season against Bicester Tennis Club. Both teams needed at least five points to secure promotion, with at least one team guaranteed to miss out.
In a wonderfully sporting encounter, Wychwoods won a hugely competitive match 8 -1 to win the league by three points. Success was sealed by Brad and Duncan’s epictie-break victory 7-5 2-6 7-6 over the Bicester captain Jonathan Rowley and his partner Thorston Moll. We remained unbeaten throughout the summer season.
A special mention in dispatches goes to Duncan Sedgwick, who finished joint top of the Division 6 individual player standings, missing out on the ‘best player in the division’ title on set difference!

Summer 2018 was the first year for the Mens C Team in the Summer League. So the team started in division 11 of 11.
There were 8 games in total, although one game did not count in the final analysis as the opponents withdrew from the league.
We used 10 different players, 4 of which were "juniors".
Ben Light and Simon Mowbray both had 100% in terms of sets won, with John Passey at 80%. Simon and John formed the strongest pair.
We achieved promotion, to follow up our successful promotion in the 2017/18 Winter League.
