With the summer season in full swing it's time to celebrate the developments in girls tennis at the club. For the first time we are launching club clothing specifically for girls & the first item available, a girls top, is just £6.
Our junior girls are led by Becky Hallums & Molly Muir who play for the Ilfracombe Ladies teams in the North Devon LTA summer leagues. Unfortunately due to exam season Becky & Molly could not participate in the recent Atlantic Racquet Centre Grade 4 half-term tournament. Other juniors girls are yet to rejoin for summer 2018, although we hope to entice them into programmes soon.
Our mini girls are led by Elsie Burrows who competed at the ARC 2018 tournament, winning the 10U Girls Singles event & finishing 3rd in the mixed event. Elsie, along with fellow YR5 girls Daisy Freeman, Edie Taylor, Heather Easy, Ruby Richards & Sofia Espinosa-Cabrera have all competed in the Devon & Cornwall Whirlwind Mini Tour series of Green (10U) events. Many of the YR5 girls will move to yellow ball in September 2018 & the remainder in April 2019. Elsie looks like being the first girl to reach a GREEN 1 rating! This will allow her to move to a 9.2 rating in September.
Bessie Burrows (pictured) & Lottie McLintock have also competed at the mini red (8U) series of events. Bessie has also competed at club match play orange (9U) events.
Before moving onto Whirlwind Mini Tour events players typically compete in club match play events & currently we have a group of girls competing at this initial level including Millie Hayes & Blythe Gill (10U), Keira Nicolson, Erin & Iris Bilby, Elsie Straw, Darcy Taylor, Halle-Mae Anderson & Jasmine Keating (8U). In training we also have Edie, Chloda, Kitty, Lois, Chloe & Issy. As part of our schools competition YR2 group we have Esme, Hannah & Leila.
We have a number of new girls (Jess, Lauren) hitting the courts so lots of developments in girls tennis are being planned for the future. We are currently working with atround 50 Ilfracombe Infants YR1 girls , alongside the boys, & around 100 YR2 & reception girls have completed 12 weeks tennis earlier in the school year.
Now is a great time for girls to join the club, grab a top & have some fun playing a great sport!
