Your tennis strings are the life blood of your racket.  They grip the ball and get loose over time.  As a rough guide, the number of times you play in the week is the amount of restrings over a years play.  This can vary with how much spin and power a player uses and also the types of strings used.  

These are monofiloment and multifiloment strings. The guage (thickness of string) plays a big part as thick strings are durable but the finer guage thicknesses add bite, spin, and control to the ball promoting feel through the racket for touch.  These strings are more high performance, but will last less time.
