Club News by Pat Sharp

I’ve often said to our juniors that playing tennis can lead to a variety of careers, from wanting to be a tennis pro, to coaching, physio, sports reporter, umpire, referee, merchandise. I can think of 10 different careers many of which could take you around the world. So, I like to keep in touch with some of our former juniors who have used tennis as a career tool. Recently caught up with Aswin Lizen who went to America on a tennis scholarship. He later went to University, captained his Uni team and ended up visiting the White House, with his team mates after they won the inter-state championship. He has since graduated, is working for an investment bank in New York City. Ash says he “plays tennis whenever he can and there is a huge tennis community in NYC, so it’s not hard to find former professionals or university players to play with”. That is where Aswin’s racquet has taken him to.

Meanwhile Billy Harris has, this month, been playing some tournaments in Crete and his sister Katie who was on a tennis scholarship in the US, has come home as all her classes are online and inter-collegiate tennis tournaments are all cancelled up to Christmas, due to Covid19. Still need to catch up with Charlotte Clarke who is at a tennis Academy in Tenerife.
