Welcome to Alverstoke
A very warm welcome to Alverstoke, we hope that you have had the opportunity to make full use of our sporting and social facilities.
You will find that our professional coaching staff and organisers provide plenty of opportunities for you to enjoy your sport, whether you are a complete beginner, coming back to sport after a break, playing at a more advanced standard or just wishing to play at a social level.
Sometimes joining a new Club can be a little daunting and we are very keen that new members are given every opportunity to get involved in Club activities. Improving your game
One of the great benefits of being part of a members club such as Alverstoke is that we are able to provide coaching through our excellent coaches. Any new member is entitled to a free individual coaching assessment for either Tennis or Squash with the coaches in order to access your standard and point you in the right direction for how to develop your game.
Contact the Coaches
Tennis: - Ed Percival – email@example.com
Squash: - Paul Holdway – Holdway@hotmail.com
Ed Percival is the club head coach and runs the junior and adult programme. He organises a broad range of sessions catering for all ages and abilities.
The club has a vibrant Tennis programme with sessions that run seven days a week. Ed is happy to receive any requests or queries regarding anything Tennis related and is looking forward to meeting you on court.
If you look at the Tennis noticeboard which is on your left as you enter the club, there is a full listing of the Tennis programme. All the Saturday sessions are drop-ins meaning there is no need to book in advance. Contact Ed prior to attending your first session so that he can help guide you to the session which best fits your requirements.
On the Squash noticeboard, which is located on the Squash balcony, there is a full list of the sessions being run right now. For newer players it is recommended to try the handicap which is currently on Thursdays from 19:30 – 21:30 and to join the friendly Squash leagues.
For any Squash related queries please contact Paul Holdway (Holdway@hotmail.com)
Social side of the Club
There are regular social events throughout the year offering a variety of different functions to fit your tastes. These events are run by volunteers and you are all encouraged to get involved and take part, these are great ways for you to get to know the rest of the club.
Check out our club Facebook page for the latest information and give us a like!
There is also a mentoring scheme where more experienced members partner up with newer members who are interested and help introduce them into the club providing them with someone to play in case they are stuck wanting a game but have no one to play.
If interested in joining this scheme just reply to this email and let us know.
Club and Website Access
Firstly if you have any queries about club access or membership in general please contact Rachel, our club administrator (firstname.lastname@example.org)
There is a security system in place which allows members access to the club providing they possess a key fob. In order to get a key fob simply come to the office when it’s open and ask Rachel for a key fob, alternatively call on 02392 583726 in office hours to arrange collection from the bar in the evening. There is a £5.50 deposit for the fob, and Rachel will then show you how to use it.
In order to book courts online you need to register with Clubspark and follow the instructions online, you will need to contact email@example.com if you have not been sent the link via email with regards to this. Once you are on the system if you click the bookings button you will be able to view which courts are booked, and make bookings yourself. You can also book courts via our website once registered with Clubspark.
Any other queries please phone the office on 02392 583726 or alternatively email the club on firstname.lastname@example.org
About the club
Tennis has been played at Alverstoke since the 1880’s. Our longevity is owed to the fact that we are a members club. This means that we are owned and run by the members themselves. Every member has an equal opportunity to get involved in the organisation of the club, putting as much or as little into the club as they wish.
Several of the current management committee have only been members of the club for a couple of years and so were recently in a very similar position to you. By getting involved, taking part, and contributing towards the club they don’t just enrich their own experience of the club, but help improve the club for everyone.
Finally, we really do hope you will enjoy your membership and that playing your particular sport(s), at whatever level, is rewarding and most importantly – fun.
