Biography

My first experience of tennis was at the age of 3 at Shipston Tennis Club. I was too young to join the group coaching sessions with my older siblings, so my mum would rally with me on the court next to them each week to keep me entertained. I was instantly hooked, so when the coach (Barry Tugwood) offered me the opportunity to join the group coaching, tennis became my life. On top of group and additional individual coaching, I devoted time and effort developing my game playing with friends and family, hitting against the practice wall and serving baskets of balls. After early success in competitions, winning the club championships and a number of local tournaments, I was selected at the age of 7 for Warwickshire County Training.

To take my game to the next level, I started individual lessons up until the age of 10 with Performance Coach, Gavin Henderson at BlossomfieldWarwick Boat Club and indoor access at Norman Green. During this time, I was selected to represent the U10 Warwickshire County Team as the No.1 player, reached the Regional-Final of the U10 National Fred Perry Challenge and won the U10 Warwickshire County Championships.

From the age of 10 to 13, I was awarded a Tennis Scholarship at Coventry Racquets Centre with access to indoor courts and individual coaching with Richard Marklow. After a long selection process with three regional training camps, a national roadshow and a final assessment, I was chosen for the National Futures Programme which was an LTA initiative to find and support the 25 most promising players in Britain for each age group between 11-13 years. I attended several National training camps and received funding to help support my tennis and fitness development. I also trained twice a week at Nottingham Tennis Centre lead by Martin Weston as part of the high performance academy among the top players in the Midlands. During this stage, I won the U12 Warwickshire County Championships in both the singles and doubles, played at No.1 in the team that finished 2nd in the Country in the U13 LTA National Junior Club League Finals and was rated inside the top 16 in the UK, earning direct entry into the U13 LTA British Junior National Championships for both singles and doubles.

During the championships, I was invited by top Australian coach Shane Fone to join a high-intensity training camp in Sweden as part of the Fone International Tennis Academy. The professionalism was outstanding, it was very clear that my path to achieving international level was through the guidance of Shane. I travelled a 4 hour round commute 3 times a week to access training alongside the top players in the UK with the Fone International Tennis (F.I.T.) Academy based at Halton UK in Buckinghamshire. I gained my first international experience competing on the Tennis Europe Junior Tour, travelling overseas to DenmarkSwedenSlovenia and domestically in the UK.

At 16, I joined the LTA's Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence programme at Halton UK, aimed at providing performance players a clear pathway to becoming a professional tennis player, coach and University scholar. The Apprenticeship offered an extensive programme for me as a student athlete to achieve an NVQ Level 3 in understanding and achieving excellence in sports performance, both LTA Level 1 and 2 Coach Assistant qualifications and two A-Level qualifications whilst committing to regular high performance training and competition of a National (British Tours) and International (ITF's) level.

At 18, I was awarded an International Sports Scholarship in Tennis at the University of Stirling - Scotland's University for Sporting Excellence. The high performance programme involved training up to 20 hours on-court with coach Euan McGinn at the Scottish National Tennis Centre in addition to strength and conditioning four times per week. I competed in the British Universities National Premier League, BUCS Individual Championships, European Universities Championships, LTA Team Tennis and LTA British Tour circuit, reaching a career high British Tennis ranking of 101.

On top of my commitments as a student athlete, I was a coaching assistant within the development programme and assisted National Performance Coaches with Tennis Scotland's top British and ITF ranked juniors with the role to providing high quality training and match practice between competitions.

I finished University having earned a Certificate in Higher Education and a drive to pursue a career in coaching tennis.

Once I returned from University, I began my full-time career as a Club Coach at Stratford-on-Avon Tennis Club and achieved my LTA Level 3 Coach Qualification. I was involved in all areas of the mini, junior and adult coaching programme, including cardio tennis, multi-sport camps, team training and school outreach, gaining a variety of experiences to help become a well-rounded coach. I continued development in my own tennis, competing in regional and national graded tournaments.

My background in performance influenced the decision to progress my career, moving to Buckinghamshire to coach in a high performance environment.

In 2014, I joined the Everyball Tennis coaching team at Halton UK, an LTA accredited High Performance Centre and one of the leading multisport clubs in the country. I gained invaluable experience and knowledge working with expert mentors and players of all ages, abilities and aspirations with the promise to “educate, motivate and inspire each individual to become the best they can be, and in doing so, improving life chances”. My key role was supporting the high performance programme, developing players of county through to international level, both individually and within groups. I instilled values, beliefs and a vision for long-term player development that was respected by the LTA with the mission to furthering British tennis. A personal highlight was providing sparring and match practice between international competitions for ATP and WTA ranked players.

In 2016, I returned back to Warwickshire working as a full-time coach at Stratford-on-Avon Tennis Club, working with all ages, abilities & aspirations. My main role and responsibility was to coordinate junior tennis activity for teenagers (13-18), with the objective to growing participation on the programme, camps and competitions. Individually, I've been responsible for the long-term development of two aspiring and committed junior players. My duties include planning and delivering a bespoke coaching programme, planning tournament schedules, domestic tournament travel, match and video analysis, supporting physical development and injury prevention, along with identifying and reviewing goals with the player and parents.

I also assisted one of the UK's top performance coaches with a number of his top ITF ranked junior players, providing high quality hitting and match practice between national and ETA / ITF competitions. Additionally, I have provided, and continue to provide regular individual sparring sessions during the summer holidays with a former junior grand slam player and current Division 1 US Collegiate Tennis Scholar.
