On a chilly Autumnal evening in September the Intermediate Cup Final took place between Chesham 1879 and Aston Park at Chesham 1879's club. The  Aston Park team was Nathan Glynn / Sarah Beaman and Dan Norton / Mollie Twitchell who were well supported by several other club members who had made the journey over to Chesham and were treated to a fine display of competitive tennis. 

In the first round Dan and Mollie got into their stride early and won the match convincingly 6-3, 6-4. Over on the other court Nathan and Sarah also got off to a flying start winning the first set 6-3 but Chesham 1879 fought back well in the second set winning it 6-2. Aston Park were thus 3-1 sets up at the break.

Chesham 1879 came out into the second matches fully fired up and playing with renewed confidence taking the first set in both matches 7-5 bringing the match to 3 sets all with everything to play for. Dan and Mollie raised their game in the final set with a great display of mixed doubles tennis which Chesham 1879 simply couldn’t match and took the final set 6-1 edging Aston Park into a 4-3 sets lead. Nathan and Sarah fought hard in the final set but lost out 7-5 taking the final match score to a 4-4 Draw. Thanks to that amazing final set from Dan and Mollie the 6-1 games win was enough to secure victory on ‘games won’ .

This also builds on similar wins in 2021 and in 2019 (2020 event not held due to the Covid pandemic).
