Game, Set & Swap Finals Day

After 4 months of nail biting contests, the tennis doubles event of the year culminated on the 7th October. Forget Wimbledon! Forget the Davis Cup! Aylsham Tennis Club’s “Game, Set & Swap,” event saw nine of the original 12 teams of determined contenders come together for the final, playing until they literally dropped, in 15 minute rounds throughout the afternoon!

Contest leaders, team Bodgit & Scarper aka, Sally Homfray – Davies and Robbie Ollman, despite playing a successful winter league match in the morning, managed to keep their legs going, keep their comfortable lead and claim the crowning glory of 1st place. Team Gold & Diamonds, Rachael Goldson and Hilary Dimond, weren’t too far behind and claimed second prize, whilst there were joint winners for 3rd position – Team ViPs – mother and daughter team, Sarah & Claudia Van Poortvliet and Team Dropshots, John Hall and John Conquest.

Top scoring Individual prize went to Rachael Goldson, whilst a special award was given to Claudia, our only junior entrant, for being brave enough to take on us old fogies and pretty much wiping the floor with us!

A fantastic buffet , supplied by all the players, and prize ceremony followed the tennis.

We are extremely grateful to the prize donors –

Tescos, Marks and Spencers, Co-op, Budgens, Le Bon-Bon, Carousel Chocolates, McColl’s Newsagents and our very own John Woodeson.

The event was held as a fund raiser with money going towards the court resurfacing fund, and we are delighted to announce that it raised a total of £234 for this cause.

So many thanks to all who took part and contributed towards this total, and also to all who helped make the finals day a great success.
