In September 2016 Nigel began the long haul of working towards the highest LTA coaching qualification: the level 5 Master Club coach award. This included a 1st 4 Sport level 3 award in workforce mentoring and a BSc degree with distinction in Professional practice in tennis coaching management.

Nigel was one of only eight candidates to be accepted on the course. During the process, his presentation skills were assessed, he developed a portfolio of evidence, and had training and teaching assessments. Nigel said that it had been a great experience, but challenging at times with a lot of time away from home.
