AGM Minutes

0.3% success with 40 points for only 7 against. The player stats show from 83 players we had 8, 5 of which were in the top quarter positions – 1st, 2nd, 5th, 19th and 20th.

B. Div B. 5th position. Gruelling season having 8 tie breaks and exiting the wrong side of winning. 8 players of 67 – positions 7, 10 & 15 in the top quartile.

C. Div 4A. 2nd position. Close competition all season with Chalford in 1st position by one point. 7 players from 65 with one casualty who put on a brave face despite a broken ankle. The team consolidated and ended with 1, 2 and 14 in the top quartile.

D. Div 5B. 5th. David Henry managed a good team giving new team members an opportunity into match play. 8 players from 52, secured positions 1 & 8 in the top quartile.

Hereford & Worcester – Captained by Grant playing higher standard of tennis to the teams in SWAS. Managed to obtain promotion from Div 4 East into Div 3 East this year despite having only one pair to send to the match on a few occasions.

Mixed 2015 – B. Div 4. 3rd. enjoyed a good level of tennis appropriate to their ability. 81 players in total – we had 11, 5 ladies and 6 men. We had 6 players in the top quartile at 8, 9, 10, 11, 14 & 17. LLMMML.

A. Div 2. 2nd. 81 players in total, 13 from Beckford (5 men and 8 ladies). Top quartile positions, we had 3, 9, 10, 12, 17. FMFMM.

Simon Filiatrault added that Beckford had come 3rd in last winter’s National South West Division (indoor doubles). 8 teams had participated and he felt Beckford had achieved a good result against tough opposition, particularly as we had been only 1 match short of making it to the final.

In the Aegon South West Division summer singles, Beckford came 5th out of 8, and avoided relegation. Chris Morrow won 9 out of 10 matches played.

The National Premier League doubles (Midland area) have started and Beckford has won one match and lost one match.

e) WOMEN’S CAPTAIN – Linda Upton

Hereford & Worcs Winter League. Captain – Linda Upton. Beckford Ladies took 3rd place in Div 4 East, tied in points with our great rival, Evesham, but beat them on games won. This is a tough league so we did well to finish 3rd for 2 years running. Our team is made up of A and B team players. So far this season, we have played 1 match, winning 8-1.

Winter Mixed A 2014/15. Captain – Linda Upton. We had an excellent season, finishing 2nd behind Minchinhampton. We won 5, lost 5, drew 2, but our points were high. We were promoted to the 1st Division. So far this season – 2015/16 – we’ve played 6 matches in Div 1, won 4 and lost 2. We’re being helped at the top of the league by Simon, Jamie Morrow and Nigel Stanton.

Summer Ladies. A. Captain – Linda Upton. We finished 2nd in the 1st Div behind East Glos C They were a strong team but we took satisfaction from beating them at home – the only team to do so. This was a great result considering we had to forfeit 2 rubbers at Painswick due to injury.

Summer Ladies. B. Captain – Sarah Coombes. Came 2nd in Div 2, only 1 point behind East Glos D so will go back up to Div 1. It was a much improved season, winning most of their matches. Thanks to Gail Gibson, Angela Piercy, Finella Williams who helped out.

Summer Ladies. C. Captain – Sally Plunkett. Finished in 6th place on the other side of Div 2 so will be going down. They were unfortunate to have several injured players so next year can only do better!

Summer Ladies. D. Captains – Nicky Ellis and Val Udale. Again, this team had lots of injuries so struggled through the season. They will be relegated to Div 6. Thanks to Sue Somers, Malle Hague and Maggie Carver for stepping in at the last minute and for Angela Wood for being so adaptable, playing with many different partners. Thanks also to Val for supporting Nicky Ellis.

f) JUNIOR REPORT – David Lindgren, Junior Co-ordinator

First of all, a huge thankyou to Simon Filiatrault.  He is at the heart of almost everything to do with our Junior membership, ably supported by Liam Gough. Together they enthuse and motivate children to play tennis 52 weeks per year.

We have an active Junior membership for a club of our size and entered 14 teams in the Aegon Junior leagues – 46 players. We have more juniors playing team tennis than any other club. 3 teams won their leagues (Under 8s, Under 9s and Unders 12s B team).

The drawback of such an active junior membership is that the teams need managing. Currently 3 teams are handled by David and 11 teams by Simon. We need to encourage parents to participate and help in team

  1. Vote of thanks to retiring Committee Members

Ruth Marshall (Membership Secretary) and Malle Hague (Treasurer) are both stepping down from their roles following the AGM. Peter Udale, seconded by Linda Ellis, proposed a vote of thanks for their sterling work and unfailing commitment to the club over many years serving on the Committee. Members present were unanimous with a show of hands.

  1. Chairman Vacancy

Peter Udale reiterated his intention to retire from his role as Chairman within 3-4 months of the 2015 AGM, once the introduction of new Treasurer and Membership Secretary Roles have successfully transitioned.  The role of Chairman is integral to the success of the club and Peter has been unstinting in his work in this role for the past 6 years. Laurence Alexander proposed a huge vote of thanks to Peter for his tireless efforts on behalf of the club, seconded by Diane Atwell. Any volunteers to take over will be welcomed.

  1. Membership Subscriptions for 2016

Peter Udale reported that in view of current low inflation rates and the robust financial health of the club, the committee proposed maintaining subscriptions at 2015 rates. However, it is proposed to change the coaching voucher system for junior players because it is adminis-tratively burdensome. The voucher system was implemented as an incentive for juniors to receive coaching so its withdrawal might have an impact. Junior fees to reduce to £25 from £30. 2016 will be used as a test year.

Proposed by Laurence Alexander, seconded by Jane Summers, the subscriptions for 2016 will be as follows:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Paid before 31.1.16 *
