CLUB DAY – SEPTEMBER 2017
This took place on Saturday 9th September, despite squally winds and sudden torrential downpours!
The day began with a tournament for junior players, followed by a barbecue lunch and presentation to all our very successful juniors.
16 members, including some invited juniors, took part in the afternoon tournament, diving in and out of the clubhouse when rain stopped play! The finalists were Frank Sweet and Bethany Pye versus Sandra Chambers and Charlton Van Staden. It was an exciting and very close final, eventually won 4:3 by Frank and Bethany.
JUNIOR UPDATE
There was a statistic published recently which stated that Federer & Djokovic, throughout their career, only win 55% of the points played! This makes our junior season very impressive having won 65% of ours! These are the best results in the county, for which our coach, Simon Filiatrault, and all his helpers can be very proud!
We had 12 junior teams competing this year involving 47 players.
Individually, Aidan Donnelly distinguished himself by winning the county closed championship in the under 9 years category & also coming 3rd in the under 10's. He was awarded the junior cup for the most improved player at the club as a result.
Other individual mentions go to Beth Pye: 4th in Hereford & Worcester county champs singles and runner-up in doubles.
Charlton Van staden: 4th in under 10's Gloucestershire county closed championships.
Seb Warner was another high achiever this year performing brilliantly in several tournaments making the club proud. He was recipient of a brand new Babolat racquet in recognition of his hard work throughout this year.
