Pickleball

Want to learn Pickleball? We are running free sessions with coaches every Thursday between 5pm-7pm!

Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. It can be played both indoors and outdoors on a badminton-sized court with a slightly modified tennis net. Here are some key points about pickleball:

Equipment: Players use a solid paddle, which is typically made of wood or composite materials, and a perforated plastic ball, similar to a Wiffle ball but slightly smaller.

Court: The court is 20 feet wide and 44 feet long for both singles and doubles matches. The net is 36 inches high at the sidelines and 34 inches high in the middle.

Rules:
    - The game can be played as singles (one player per side) or doubles (two players per side).
    - Points are scored only by the serving side.
    - Games are usually played to 11 points, and a team must win by 2 points.
    - The ball is served diagonally, and the serve must be made below the waist.
    - There is a non-volley zone, commonly referred to as the "kitchen," which is 7 feet from the net on both sides. Players cannot volley (hit the ball in the air without letting it bounce) while standing in this zone.

Play: The ball must bounce once on each side before players are allowed to volley. This is known as the "double bounce rule."

History:  Pickleball was invented in 1965 by three dads—Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell, and Barney McCallum—in Bainbridge Island, Washington, as a game for their families to play together.

Pickleball has grown rapidly in popularity due to its appeal to a wide range of age groups and fitness levels. It is known for being easy to learn, social, and a great form of exercise.
