Fence repair

We have just had word that the fence on court 5 is finally going to be repaired. The work will commence this Tuesday 10th June and continue till Thursday 12th. Courts 4 and 5 will be closed between 8am and 5pm on those dates. The car park will be closed too. Please take care if you’re going down to the bottom courts to play on those days. You will need to walk across courts 4 and 5 towards the farmer’s field and use the gate on that side to access courts 1, 2 and 3. Thank you.

Quiz Night
Our next Quiz Night is on Saturday 28th June at 7pm. There will be delicious De Giorgio pies and peas served up in the break. Tickets are £8. Bring your own drink as usual. Get those grey cells working and join us by booking your tickets at boldon.ltc@outlook.com by Saturday 21st June. This is always a popular event so early booking is essential! Friends and family are more than welcome!

Club Social Tournament
Also on Saturday 28th June at 2pm is our next social tournament. Come along for some fun competitive tennis and bring a contribution for a communal tea. All standards welcome as this will be a handicapped tournament. Hope to see you there.

Buskers Night
We have a full line up for our Buskers Night on Saturday 19th July, headed by the Black Corner Band. It’s going to be a great night of music. Come along and see what talent we have in our tennis club. Tickets must be ordered in advance at Eventbrite, even if you are performing, as we have a maximum capacity of 40. We are trying something new, in that the tickets are free but we will be asking for a donation on the evening for your night’s entertainment. Bring your own drink and nibbles and we’ll see you there!

Raffle Prizes

As you will have read in Jane’s email on Wednesday, we are in the process of spending quite a bit of money (£65,000) keeping your club in tip-top condition and preparing for the future. This money is all raised by you from your fees and from social events that the Funcom organises. (See above and more dates below.) We own the land and generally speaking we do not take out loans if it can be avoided. Grants are hard to come by these days so we have to save up and be careful with what we do need to buy. (A small group of committed volunteers and members with technical skills help to keep costs down.)

We often have raffles at our events, so even if you cannot attend any of them, you can still help by donating a raffle prize. It may be for a specific event, like our Ladies Day or Awards Night, or something that we could store and use at any of our events. This small contribution is part of our big fundraising effort for our court improvements etc., and we appreciate every contribution. You can leave donations in the kitchen at the clubhouse, and let us know where it is so we can collect it. Many thanks for your help in keeping our club great!

Funcom volunteers
We have a couple of spaces for volunteers on the FunCom. (Short for Fundraising and Publicity Committee.) Do you fancy helping with the planning and organisation of some of our events? The ideal would be to have someone join our committee on a long term basis, but if you have fundraising experience (not essential) and/or ideas and would like to help organise just one possibly new event we would love to hear from you.

Alternatively, would you like to help keep our social media vibrant? Can you help us reach a wider audience? This could be done from home with no need to attend meetings, but it would help to raise awareness of our club. (You would be surprised to learn how many people in the Boldon area don’t even know we exist!)
