IMPORTANT - Locking up the club
Please make sure if you are the last person to leave the club, whatever time of day it is, that you lock the front door with the key in the key safe, return the key to the safe and jumble up the numbers. If there is a power cut, the magnets which hold the door and gates shut will fail so the clubhouse will be left unlocked and vulnerable to a break-in. Our insurance will be invalid if anything adverse happens whilst the clubhouse is insecure.

There have been a few occasions recently when this procedure has not been followed, and as we have had a recent reminder from the police about sports clubs being targeted, it is imperative that we are vigilant about security. If you need a reminder about the code for the key safe, ask by replying to this email. Don’t wait until you are stood outside the door wondering how to get in or how to lock up. We may not be available to reply at that time. Thank you for your co-operation.

Court maintenance
As some of you have already noticed, the courts will be closed on Monday due to one of our regular visits from STM, the company who laid the courts and with whom we have a maintenance contract. We try to book these appointments in on a Tuesday, which is a quiet day on the courts, but unfortunately the last appointment had to be cancelled due to bad weather and we had to take whatever date was available at short notice. We apologise if your regular tennis has had to be changed, but these visits are necessary to keep our courts in top condition, alongside the work done by Dave our groundsman and Alan, who does loads of work behind the scenes which probably isn’t noticed until it’s not done! Thanks for your understanding.

Boldon Festival!
Did you know we're taking part in Boldon Festival? We have several events going on during the afternoon of 24th August: Pickleball, Family Fun, Walking Tennis and Cardio Tennis. See our Facebook Page for timings. All events are free to members and the public so bring your family and friends down for a fun-filled afternoon! Anyone is also invited to take part in our Sunday Social between 10am and 12pm on 25th. See you on court!

Ladies’ Day report
The Ladies Afternoon tea was a great success. 41 ladies were treated to sandwiches, cakes and prosecco or a non-alcoholic equivalent. We were waited on by our very own butlers, Phil and John, and raised £674.50 for club funds! Definitely one to repeat. Thank you to the Funcom for your hard work in organising this. We have now raised more than £3,100 of our £5,000 target with 3 or 4 events still to come. J

New members’ (and others!) Whatsapp
The Whatsapp group for members to meet people and arrange games is now well under way, with a few games having been arranged already. Some of the people in the group are beginners, but some are a bit more experienced and just want a point of contact to arrange games with other members. If you would like to join this group, please send your name and phone number to Linda at this email address and she’ll add you. You can also add other members who you think might benefit from this type of contact point. Please note this is not a chat group: it is purely for the purposes of arranging games of tennis. We look forward to hearing from you.
