Skellern and Jullens serve up a feast of great tennis.
Bridport Tennis Club held its Finals Day last Sunday morning after a series of qualifying competitions held throughout September. New member Laurence Jullens claimed the Men’s Singles trophy beating 2021 winner Nick Wright 6-4 in a match full of high quality and high energy tennis. It was a double celebration for Jullens who had also won the Men’s Doubles partnering Scott Carson to a 7-5 victory over Ed Francis and Larry Rynsard.
Not to be outdone by the men top ladies player Hannah Skellern claimed 3 trophies to follow on from leading Bridport Ladies A to a brilliant second place in Division1 of the Yeovil and District Summer League. In the Ladies Singles final Skellern defeated Janet Clayton who was unfortunately forced to retire injured. Earlier in the morning Skellern partnered Rosie Russell in a 6-3 win over finalists Jan Parker and Niamh Vercoe, she then rounded off the day by winning the Mixed Doubles 6-1 with father-in-law George Skellern against Scott Carson and Jan Parker. Meanwhile the Veterans Doubles trophy went to Jan Parker and Trevor Dreadman-Spall who defeated Julian Jones and Jip Newell 7-6 after a tie-break.
Trophies and prizes were presented by Club Secretary Sue Arnold with thanks to both Palmers Brewery and Selected Grapes for their generous support.
