About Us

The Beginning

Burwash Lawn Tennis Club (BLTC) started in January 1998 when lottery funding was obtained from the Sports Council to build two public tennis courts.  A stipulation of the funding was that a tennis club be created to run the courts and to raise funds to maintain them.  The courts were professionally pressure-cleaned and recoloured in 2007, and more recently in 2016.

As from July 2023 the Burwash Playing Field Association (BPFA) manage and maintain the courts.   In December 2023 the BPFA began the conversion of the courts into multi-functional sports courts with the ability to play football, netball and basketball.  The East court remains as a tennis court unless the Netball Club is using the court the West Court is multi-functional with the Tennis club having exclusive use during the Tennis Club Hours of Play

The Players

As is to be expected in a rural village like Burwash the club is relatively small. Members come from Burwash and surrounding areas, and there is a range of ages and abilities.

As a club we are affiliated to the Lawn Tennis Association (SUS413) www.lta.org.uk.  The affiliation provides us with insurance for users of the tennis courts during BLTC Hours of Play.  BLTC members are eligible to  become a  British Tennis Member who enter a draw to purchase Wimbledon tickets through the annual British Tennis Member's ballot. At present membership to British Tennis is free.

The Committe

The members of the BLTC committee are elected at the AGM, and will remain in office for one year. Every member of the club over 18 years old, can put their name forward.
