Fitness and Walking Tennis
WALKING TENNIS SESSIONS FOR OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY
Start May 3rd, Fridays 1pm to 2.30pm. Then every week – same day and time.
Gentle fitness and tennis activities followed by refreshments and a chat in the clubhouse.
£3 per person. first session free.
Walking tennis is mainly for people with reduced mobility (or for older beginners). It’s like normal tennis but the ball can bounce twice and players must always have one foot on the ground. The sessions will be open to non-members as well as members.
Susanna Hung, a recent migrant from Hong Kong said: “At 72, moving from Hong Kong was a big change, and I was a bit nervous when I first joined Walking Tennis. But this beautiful club, with its welcoming and friendly people, quickly put me at ease. Every session ends with laughter, sweat, and that good kind of tiredness. It’s been a perfect way to stay active and connect with the community.”
Pete Williams said: “I had been a life-long tennis player until a back injury forced me to stop aged 65. Some 6 years later I discovered walking tennis at Littleover Valley Tennis Club. I now attend regularly, enjoying not only the exercise and tranquil surroundings but, more especially, the enjoyment, camaraderie and social aspects of the game that I have always loved.”
If you know anyone who might be interested in organised warm-up exercises and walking tennis, please let them know. They are welcome to attend and take part at the level they are comfortable with.
Here is a poster. Feel free to print it off and put it up somewhere.
