Tucked away in the historic, picturesque village of Cawood is our thriving tennis club – built on the site of the former Cawood, Wistow and Selby Light Railway, with our clubhouse standing as a cherished piece of local heritage.
Our first tennis court was completed in 1981, and the club was officially opened in 1991 by the Minister for Sport, Robert Atkins MP. Today, we boast three floodlit, all-weather hard courts, a practice wall, and our historic railway clubhouse with changing facilities.
As an LTA-affiliated club, we're proud to be North Yorkshire's most affordable, with members ranging from 6 to 86 years old. We warmly welcome tennis and pickleball players of all ages and abilities. This year, thanks to donations and funding from NYCC we have delivered over 600 free junior coaching sessions and are developing a Young Coach Development Programme that helps teens develop LTA qualifications and employability skills.
Community is at the heart of everything we do. We partner with Cawood Primary School to provide free court access for their pupils, host U3A tennis and pickleball groups to combat rural isolation, and serve communities across the Selby district. With 45 years of volunteer leadership and democratic governance, we continue to offer sustainable, inclusive sport in this special heritage setting.
There's always something exciting happening at Cawood Tennis Club – from club sessions and coaching to tournaments, events, and social play throughout the year. Come and join us!
