Social tennis

Social tennis is for adults (and older juniors by invitation) and is an opportunity for club members to mix in, rotate and play sociable doubles games with different people. We just ask that players have the tennis basics i.e. ability to rally, serve overarm and score. So please come along and enjoy some friendly games. Please note, the club does not supply balls.

Thursday Evenings

Social tennis is held on Thursday evening from early April up to the end of September. 

A booking system operates which works  as follows:

  • Games are available for members over three slots as follows:

                               * 18:00 – 18:45

                               * 18:45 – 19.15

                               * 19:15 – 20:00

  • To participate in either or both of the first two sessions, you need to complete the social tennis form before 6 p.m. on Wednesday.  Matches for the third sessions are to be organised  at the time by those members who want to play.            
  • We use a WhatsApp Community Group  for Thursday night Social Tennis to send out booking forms  and the schedule notifying players of the matches for each of the sessions. If you aren’t already included in this group and wish to play social tennis on Thursday evenings, then please email  - tennis@charltonkingstennisplace.co.uk .
  • A Reserve List will operate if any session is oversubscribed. If a session is initially oversubscribed and space becomes available then priority will be given to any reserve.
  • Choices made on booking forms may be amended any time before 6 p.m. on Wednesday by clicking on the email confirmation link received when registering.
  • If, for any reason, a member is unable to attend their allocated session once it has been arranged, they need to message the WhatsApp Community Group to indicate that their space has become available for another member to stand in. 
  • Members should also notify the What's App Group if they are running late.
  • Please note that you will need to bring your own balls to social tennis.

Saturday Mornings

Social tennis is also held on Saturday mornings, the first such Saturday of 2025 will be 12th April, and continue up to the end of October. You just need to turn up and we will be there to put you into games. After the first week you can just turn up at the same times and organise yourselves into games on the blue courts. The sessions are:

  • 10:00 – 10:45
  • 10:45 – 11.30
  • 11.30 – 12.15

Winter Tennis

We do not operate as a club between November and March; however, a group of CKTP members do play regularly over the winter months, on Saturday mornings, from 9:30am to 11:30am, using the excellent Pittville Park courts.
