Summer Tennis
Tue, 24 Jul 2018 00:00
What a wonderful summer we are having weather-wise! As a result there has been plenty of tennis to enjoy and play in!
Congratulations first must go to Vic Allen on her Wimbledon debut in the Girls’ event. She lost in three sets in her first match to L. Ma and went out eventually in doubles with her partner Desiree Martins at the quarter final stage. Well done Vic!
Our representatives at Road to Wimbledon also did well, Dylan Hadley losing a tight match at the semi-final stage to the eventual champion Harry Wharam. Unfortunately Savannah Hunter and Eleanor Redfern lost in the first round of the finals
Congratulations also go to the Ladies team that won the regional final of the National Club league, as they will now be promoted to the regional competition next season. We also celebrate the results of the ‘8 and under’ mixed teams and the ladies in the Team tennis competition which has been running this summer.
The July Friday Fun night was in the middle of the World Cup and was not as well attended as others, but fewer people meant more court time! The next one is in the school holidays, on 4th August. Bring the kids down for a drink and a play, there will be refreshments available on the day. The Activity weeks in between have gone well. The Fast 4 event and Speed 21 were successful and now we look forward to ‘Sip and Serve’ on August 18th - no entry fee just bring a drink of your choice to share and drink in between a few friendly sets. Nibbles provided!!!!!
This year the ladies have organised tennis weekend to Murcia (near La Manga) on the weekend of 5th to 8th October. It involved 2 hours coaches tennis a day and plenty of sunbathing and rest time followed by an evening meal out. If you are interested please let Julia Booth know on boothcjsa@hotmail.com
Despite the warm weather we need to thank the Maintenance crew for keeping the club looking good and the grass short, thanks to everyone who helps.
