Junior successes

The under 12s County Cup took place at the end of April the Derbyshire girls traveled to Malvern each day. The trips were worthwhile as they won 6-0 v Staffs, 6-1 v Hereford & Worcestershire 6-0 v Shropshire.

Casey Mauro and Ferial Amin won all their matches.

Aanya Rai also took part in the competition, representing Staffordshire.

Casey and Ferial were selected to represent Derbyshire’s U14s team a week later.

More success for Casey as she played at the 12U National Youth Series Finals at Corby Tennis Centre on the 3rd May where 8 players had qualified from the previous round of the National Youth Series Tournaments to compete for the Finals title. Casey beat both the 2nd seed in the quarter finals as well as the 3rd highest ranked player in the semi finals before eventually losing in the final to the 1st seed in the tournament.

As a result of her reaching the final of this event she has been invited to a 14U National Matchplay event in Sheffield too.

Casey made her first appearance for the CB ladies 1st and won all three matches against Rolls Royce and secured herself as a regular member of the team. There is also a strong group of junior boys edging their positions in the men’s first and second teams.

Two boys, Ben Aldabass and Henry Cooper were selected for Derbyshire boys U14 team. The team of four beat Nottinghamshire, Shropshire and Hereford and Worcestershire dropping only one match during the whole weekend. Unfortunately, due to covid restrictions this year, there were no finals for the winning boys and girls teams to progress to.

In the even younger age group, up and coming stars , Charlie Walsh and Ned Salmon have been selected for the Derbyshire U9s team on May 15th.

During May our junior club teams have also been playing, the mini Green team took a trip over to Netherseal   and after some very tight matches, they finished with a team win 12-8. Great job Greens!   In addition to our Green team, last weekend our U16 Boys team defeated Chesterfield. Well done boys!   Our Mini Red team were also in action against Netherseal and Melbourne TC   More matches and great experiences to be had  when our 9U team (pictured) got off to a brilliant start to their summer team tennis season defeating Littleover in a great match!   Charlie, James, Sam & Harry!!     Also a special mention to CB’s Danny (who is only 6) and stepped in at the last minute to help out Littleover who were a player short.  The club are so lucky to have so many youngsters playing tennis and achieving success.

During Whit week the club will be running a Half term course for 5 to 12 year olds, please see the website for more details The  cost is @22 for members (£30 for non members) on Tuesday & Wednesday 1st & 2nd June;  details are from Ben Rushby on 07539265063 or benny_rushby@hotmail.co.uk.
