The end of 2020

Dear Members

As we come to the end of a very strange year the Club would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy ‘Tennising’ New Year. Thank you to everyone for your patience with playing within Covid guidelines and especially for wrestling with the website booking. It does make things simpler and covers our obligations for the Track and Trace system the Government has set up. We have always tried to follow the LTA guidelines to keep as many people on court as possible and there has been a lot of texting and organising behind the scenes to try to maintain safe play at the club. Thank you to everyone who helped and volunteered to spray the courts and keep the club tidy.

As the winter comes on we are looking at cooperating with the Golf Club regarding the gates. It is important for the Golf Club that the gates are locked to maintain security and during the dark nights there will be no golf played and the Club is closed. Consequently the gates will be closed and locked by 5.15 every night. We have made arrangements on nights when people are booked but it is very important that if you are the last person away from the courts you must lock the gates. If you arrive and the gates are already locked you will have to park on the road as we have been doing during the summer. We hope this system works well for the benefit of both the Tennis and Golf Club.

Meanwhile as we are getting back to playing we would like to remind members of playing opportunities at the club all through the winter :

There is an extra Club session, free for members, on Saturday afternoon 1.30 as well as Sunday morning at 10.30. Members of all abilities are welcome but they must book in on the website for the Track and Trace system. Look under ‘Coaching”

On Wednesday evenings 7.00-8.30 and Sunday 6.30 – 8.00 evenings there are drills and matchplay practice . Again all abilities welcome, coach is Becky Williams and there is a fee of £5 for members (£7 for non members) on Wednesday and £5,50 for members (£8 for non members) on Sunday. Again you will have to book online before attending.

For those of you around during the day Jane Rushby has a Drills & Skills session on Thursdays from 9.00 until 11.00, the cost is £8 for members and £10 for non members ; generally it is a ladies session but not exclusively!

The Derby Winter league is continuing but outdoors and we have had some matches recently. If anyone is looking for competitive matches please get in touch with Chris on boothcjsa@hotmail.com to join the next round of the Church Broughton Winter Floodlit league where you organise your own fixtures within a small league.

Please be assured that whatever tier we are in the Club are trying to keep you safe and enjoying your tennis in the coming months, Thankyou!
