Autumn News

As the season nears its end the Club would like to make a heartfelt thank you to all of the captains who have run teams this year from the Under 9’s up to all teams in the Burton and Derby Leagues. This is a job that supports all players who have taken part in matches and without them we would not have been able to play so many fixtures.
Over the summer the Club Championships are taking place and this will end in the Finals Day at Church Broughton on 26th September at the Club. All covid restrictions aside it will be one of the first times we will be able to meet at the club, so please put this date in your diary and come along for a barbecue and refreshments as well as watching good tennis. Here’s hoping the weather stays nice!
Congratulations to the boys Road to Wimbledon winner Stanley Salmon and runner up Daniel Gagie who represented the club at the County event. For the girls the winner was Anya Rai and runner up Anoushka Hart.
If you have not filled in the Padel questionnaire yet please get in touch with Jeremy Fisk on jerfisk@outlook.com. It is important to know if members of the tennis club are interested in this sport and if they think it is a good idea to add to our facilities. News on the proposed new clubhouse is not so good however. We were held up by the Planning Application during Covid and now we have received it, the builders we are contracting are very busy and not able to proceed immediately. The estimates for the work are very high at the moment which we think reflects how busy firms are.
There have been questions asked about access to the club after dark if there are no matches or courses on. We have to rely on the Golf Club opening and closing the gates and they want to shut as soon as activity has stopped on the course and in their Clubhouse. This is mainly for security reasons. Hence if we want to play after dark, under flood lights, we are asked to park on the road and access the courts via the turnstile.
Summer Camps are still running during August, on the 10th & 11th:
:17th & 18th: 24th & 25th. Then junior coaching begins again on Wednesday 1st September with normal sessions to run during the week and at weekends. Please contact Ben Rushby on benny_rushby@hotmail.co.uk
The Maintenance Committee, who we are very grateful for, have organised servicing of the Floodlights when the top 3 courts at the club will be closed for the day in late August or early September. This is because of scaffolding on the courts. We are also looking into washing and repainting the lower Multi court in the Autumn so that too may be out of action for a day. We will try to minimise disruption.
Happy Tennising everyone!
