Club

A Thankyou from Max Lambert

Thankyou to everyone who has helped make the club such a special place to be. It has been a fantastic 7.5 years that has helped me develop as a coach & a person. Thankyou to Bill, inspire2coach & the committee for allowing me to turn my hobby into a career which is now taking me to Australia! The club has been such a big part of my life and I will always look back with fond memories.

From the newsletter:

Max joined our coaching team two months after the
indoor courts were built in late 2016. At the time we
had barely 100 members and virtually no coaching
programme. Max has been instrumental in growing the
coaching programme to nearly 300 participants as well
as growing our membership to over 600.
Max will be missed as an inspirational coach. He has
introduced many of our members to tennis, and almost certainly ignited a lifelong love
of the sport in most of them. What you may not truly appreciate is that Max is also
one of our main volunteers and has played a major role in creating the programme of social events the club now has ( junior
and adult parties, team challenges etc ). This has helped create the fabulous tennis community we now have.
Max started life at our Club helping run taster sessions, he was ‘ mentored ’ by Dean our first Head Coach – an interesting
learning experience ! One of the first projects Max got to lead on was ‘ Tennis for Kids ’. This gave 100 kids free tennis
sessions for six weeks and at least twenty of them are still playing at the club !
Some of the highlights of Max’s time with us included creating a programme of social tennis competitions e.g. Brummitt and
Beer Festival team challenges. These events have helped integrate our tennis programme into existing Sports Club activities.
Other major achievements are :
 Running and expertly hosting Wednesday Night Club Socials - 11 languages were spoken on one of these sessions. The
diversity in tennis/ our tennis club is fantastic.
 Building up strong links with 4 schools and managing to coach in 12 of them !
 The Peterborough Tennis Festival – Max pretty much designed, ran and promoted this one-off grass tournament on his
own – and one an award for doing so !
 The Club has had over 1000 different children through its doors playing tennis for the first time – Max’s marketing skills
helped bring them to our Club and he’s coached and/or run tournaments and social events for most of them.
 Marketed and ran Prime Video Youth Girls course for 32 girls last Summer - Max has always embraced and championed
new tennis initiatives !
 Max has delivered most of our inclusive tennis initiatives – Heltwate Special Needs school, work with Peterborough’s
Child Development Centre, numerous wheelchair tennis initiatives and the tennis component of camps for children on
free school meals.
 Max loves a party ! So has canvassed for and then helped organise all sorts of events, many of which are now part of our
regular programme of club events – End of Season and Christmas Parties.
 Max organises the Club Championships which keeps growing year on year
and is now the highlight of our club calendar.
Most importantly the atmosphere that Max has helped create has ensured new
members feel instantly welcome and has helped the club build a genuine tennis
community.
Not surprisingly all this has not gone unnoticed, and Max has won or helped the
Club win numerous awards such as the following :
 Cambridgeshire Club of the year
 East Region (10 Counties) Club of the year
 Cambridgeshire Coach of the year
 Cambridgeshire Disability/Inclusion club
 Cambridgeshire Competition of the year
Working in Melbourne is a great opportunity for Max and we’re pretty certain he
will be introducing lots of new activities in his Park !
