Club Championship Rules
The Club Championships is open to all members and starts in April each year with finals day normally on the first Sunday in July. The following rules apply:
Eligibility
• The Championship is open all to CTC members, those wishing to compete who are not CTC members will be asked to join.
Format
• The Championship comprises several individual competitions (typically including Men’s and Ladies Singles, Men’s, Ladies and Mixed Doubles, Parent & Child). Each is its own knock-out competition.
Decision-making
• A Tournament director will be appointed for the championship – questions should be referred to him/her for a decision. He may consult with CTC committee members if needed. If a conflict of interest arises (e.g. if the director is to participate in a match impacted by a decision) then he should refer the decision to other committee members.
Timing
• Early in the year a message will be sent to CTC members inviting entries, this will include:
o the date of finals day
o the deadline for entries
o the rules
• After this deadline passes the tournament director will publish the draw for each competition and the deadlines for the completion of matches in each round.
• An individual competition starts when the first match is played.
• Competitors take responsibility to arrange matches in accordance with the deadlines. If one competitor, or doubles pair, cancels on an agreed date more than twice they forfeit the match.
Substitution
• Requests for substitutions of a competitor, doubles pair or doubles partner or a late entry to a competition may be requested to the Tournament director before a competition has started.
• Once a competition has started substitutions are not permitted.
Finals Day
• The final in each competition should be played on finals day unless there are exceptional circumstances.
• Entrants to each competition commit to be available for finals day when they enter. In exceptional circumstances (e.g. unexpected illness, injury, weather, national events etc.) the tournament director may allow the final of a competition to be played later, within one month. A simple diary clash would not be considered a sufficient reason to postpone a final.
• The winners of a competition must play and win at least one tennis match. If there are insufficient entries for a match to be played, then the competition will not be completed for that year and no winner will be announced.
• If competitors (or either one of a doubles partnership) find, during a competition, they will not be able attend finals day and there are not exceptional grounds to allow the final to be postponed then they must withdraw from the competition. Opponents will get a bye.
• Where a competition is yet to start and there is a shortage of entries, late entries should be encouraged so a competition can take place.
Matches
• All matches to be the best of 3 sets.
• Normal tie-break rules to apply in each set.
Doubles
• If a doubles partnership has won a competition three times, then that partnership cannot enter that competition again.
• The individuals may enter again with different partners.
• This is to encourage as many people as possible to take part.
• This does not apply to the singles competition.
