Cross In Hand Tennis Club

Cross in Hand Tennis Club is delighted to host an Open Afternoon, run in conjunction with Bright Ideas for Tennis – a charity set up by Danny Sapsford in order to make tennis available to all, despite physical or mental disability.  Our coach Nick, and club volunteers have been working with young people from a local school, providing a session every Thursday morning in order to introduce them to the fun of tennis. 

The Open Afternoon is a chance to come and see what Cross in Hand Tennis Club is like, and get involved in some tennis activities.  You can come along for as long as you like, and unless you wish to attend one of the coached sessions there is no need to sign up in advance.  Proceeds from the afternoon will be split between Bright Ideas for Tennis and Cross in Hand Tennis Club.  

If you plan to come and watch the exhibition match at the end of the afternoon, you may wish to bring a folding chair or a blanket to sit on.  

Tennis activities:

1.30pm - Free tennis activities and competitions for adults

3.30pm - Free tennis activities and competitions for juniors

3.30pm - Pickleball taster sessions

5.30pm - Serve Speed Gun challenge

6pm - Exhibition Matches featuring Danny Sapsford and Martin Lee with members of CIHLTC*

* There will be an exhibition set involving the winners of our Club Singles Championships.  There will be one exhibition tie break featuring members nominated for their contribution to the club, and another exhibition tie break involving winners of the raffle drawn at the event.

Coached Sessions

Coaching sessions run by ex-Davis cup players Danny Sapsford (pro from 1989, won Nottingham men’s doubles with Mark Petchey in 1996, career high ranking of 170 in April 1996) and Martin Lee (junior world no 1, winning junior Wimbledon doubles in 1996, reaching career high ranking of 94 in 2002).

1.30pm Juniors (5-10 yrs £7.50)

2.15pm Juniors (11-16 yrs, £7.50)

3.30pm Adults (intermediate, £15)

4.30pm Adults (advanced, £15)

Sessions must be booked in advance – contact crossinhandtennisclub@live.co.uk if you are interested in reserving a place.  Priority will be given to club members intiially, but will then be open to the public.  There will be a chance to win a free place on the coaching sessions if you come to our stall at Le Marche in Heathfield on Monday 26th August!

Raffle with fabulous prizes, including the chance to play in one of the exhibition matches!  Will be drawn at 5pm on the day
