Introduction

Welcome to the Dorchester Borough Gardens Tennis page.

Here you can find information on how to play tennis in the wonderful gardens, and general information about the gardens.

Dorchester Town Council and the LTA have worked in partnership to invest and refurbish our tennis courts. Courts 1+2 - closest to the clock tower - have been renovated however, all 4 courts have had new lock systems fitted to ensure that high quality facilities are available to the public for affordable prices.

The project is part of a nationwide investment by the UK Government and LTA Tennis Foundation, delivered by the LTA, to refurbish public tennis courts across Great Britain, and open up the sport to many more people.

Our tennis courts are vital in providing opportunities for children and adults to get active, delivering brilliant wellbeing benefits to participants whilst also significantly improving their physical and mental health. Having these facilities available is particularly critical to opening up the sport to those from all socioeconomic backgrounds as it ensures that everyone has the ability to join and play.

Things to do at Borough Gardens

  • To the north of our gardens is our refreshment kiosk known as 'The Kiosk On The Green'. They sell a range of snacks and drinks and are open every day during the summer and weekends during the winter.
  • Our public toilets are located to the side of our refreshment kiosk and are open all year round.
  • Opposite our refreshment kiosk is the children's play area. This is a fully enclosed play area which has facilities for all age groups. There is also a splash area that shoots water from the ground for the warmer days!
  • Near to the main entrance (Albert Road) and next to our children's play area is our adult fitness equipment. This helps give everyone the opportunity to keep fit without needing to pay for a gym subscription.
  • To the south of our gardens is Borough Gardens House which has a recently refurbished (2024) community facility located on the ground floor that is open for hire. Hire Borough Gardens House
  • We have 4 tennis courts to the south of our gardens. Currently, courts 1+2 are under refurbishment so only courts 3+4 are open for play. The remaining 2 courts should be up and running by the end of September! Book A Tennis Court At Borough Gardens
