On Saturday the 7th of May four young players represented Burton Tennis and Squash club in the Aegon 8 and under Staffordshire North Division competition. The four players Sibimanyu Jothikumar, Leo Emery, Sam Leonard and Celia Andreyev completed against Drycott, Litchfield and Bassford hosted at Dryacott sports centre. After a hotly contested set of matches against Litchfield where the win was decided by a single match Burton advanced to the final to play the hosts. After 16 matches both team were exactly tied on 8 wins each and so every single point won for each team was added together to decided the winner. At 131 points to 130 Burton won by a single point. The teams coach Duncan Coates who accompanied the team said, “It was a brilliant team performance with the result showing that every single point fought for and won by all four player helped the team accomplish this fantastic achievement. I am very proud of the team who not only played so well but also show amazing sportsmanship cheering on their own team and showing the other teams respect. All these players began in mini tennis red designed for children who are new to tennis and want to take the sport up. These sessions are held on Wednesday 5 – 6 and Saturday 11 – 12:45 at Burton Tennis and Squash Club on Ashby Road.
