Junior Club Championships

We kicked off the day with the U14s Doubles match between Euan Cawley/Nathan Emans and Szabi Kormos/James Little. The match was exciting with lots of promising talent on display from both ends of the court. The games were long but, the sets were short finishing up at 6-1 6-1 to the number one pair – Euan and Nathan.

Following that doubles match with another, this time the u12s, we see the same boys – Szabi and James – looking to bounce back from defeat. Aaron Hodge and Connor Gilroy were the only ones to stand in their way with some great all round players on court. These pairs hhave played each other in the past and sets have went all the way to the end but, this time James and Szabi came out on top with a 6-3 6-2 win over their rivals and team mates.

Now on to the Singles games with the U12s Giving us already familiar faces in Euan Cawley and Aaron Hodge.  Now partners in the U12s league games, these two had to forget about that and play their best tennis to beat the other. Euan came battling out securing the sets against Aaron who had a tough time coping with the long rallies of the ever energetic Euan.

Giving Euan a bit of a break before his U14s singles match vs Nathan Emans, we moving into our U9s matches. With kids as young as 4 competing at the start of the tournament, we have narrowed it down to just 4 – all with eyes on the final as we enter a Semi-Final round.

First semi to kick off was Callum McNair vs Ruari Arthur, again familiar team mates but, now looking to get one over each other. The match started fairly even with Ruari taking the lead but, Callum with all his passion for glory made a terrific come-back to seal their 10 point match; 10-8. Next we had Cameron Lang (much younger version to the one we had in the Gents Final last year) vs Ben Mowat. With Ben getting frustrated with himself, Cameron took an early lead but, it wasn’t long until composure found Ben to win the match 10-7 in the end.

Straight into the final and the excitement for the two finalist Callum and Ben kicks in. Ben Has a great start to the match getting himself two mini breaks in front at 5-2 as the pressure finds Callum. Callum fought back and brought it all square at 7-7. The two battled hard with mini fist pumps showing just how much it meant to them. The match was tied at 9-9 with two clear points needed for victory. Callum pulled it all out in the end to seal the victory 11-9 and didn’t hold back on his Stan Wawrinka like celebrations.

After all the drama it was time for the two top Junior players in the u14s category to battle it out in the final on Court 1. We have team mates Euan Cawley and Nathan Emans on stage for the final match of the day. As the rain threatens to affect the play we went on and the boys with very little between they had everything to play for here. Both boys had been working on their serves prior to this match and you could see it clearly paid off with some massive first serves making things difficult. Euan managed to find a break in the first set to take it 6-3 and finishing it off with some great rallies. In the second set the boys stated to tire and the was 3 breaks in total with 2 in favour of Nathan giving Nathan a 6-3 win in the second set. The third set was to be played as a Championship tie-break with the boys having nothing to separate them on the scoreboard. Both held their serves strong until the score read 5-5 when Nathan decided to storm into the lead and take full advantage of any mistakes made. Great tennis from both boys to finish the day as Nathan takes the match 10-6 in the final set.
