May-June Update

Starting off with the Spring League, we managed to escape last place in our leage without winning. I believe this has kept us in Division 1 for next season which is a good achievement! Refer to earlier articles for all the details!

Moving onto our Ladies Team in Division 5B we find the team that are doing the best, albeit at the bottom of the table. The Ladies have won most of their games so far with 4 to go and would be atleast mid-table had it not been for match forfeit resulting in a 10 point deduction. Beating the likes of Craighelen 8-1 and VA Milngavie 6-3 shows we have a superb team in our Ladies with more prospects coming up!

Onto our two Gents teams and well, things have been better. Struggling with the change of players this year and having a fair amont of inconsistency with selection we see both teams at the bottom of their tables. In Division 2A the Gents 1 have failed to pick up enough sets to gain a win so far with each match being very close it's the pair at 1st couple keeping us in with a chance of avoiding relegation. Still with 4 matches left the team seem capable of escaping. In Division 4B the Gent 2 not getting off to a good the results have gradually improved but, yet to gain a win. With only 2 games left can we do it?!

Onto the Junior matches and this year the teams have done superbly well!

With the U14s, U10s, U9s and U8s all competing and the U12s playing in September all the teams recorded atleast 1 overall win.

U8s have finished all their matches finishing third in their league with 2/4 wins. Watching all of the players at such a young age, mostly all 6 against 8 year olds, playing remarkable tennis was very delightful to see and these players look to have set the foundation for the clubs up and coming stars of the future!

U9s avoided last place with a first round win over Kelvingrove in the opening of all junior matches this season. The effort put in by the player was great and coming up against the tough sides like Newlands and Strathgryffe with the fight that the boys put in was very impressive!

U10s have played very well in their matches with a Rocky start (pardon the pun ;)) the boys recorded their first win at home to Queens Park last Friday. The boys have one more game to go against Bishopton and with a good enough result could finish second ahead of Clarkston and their next opponents.

U14s have been remarkable so far winning 2/3 games with one more to go! It looks set to be a tight finish at the top of the table against Helensburgh who were the boys only defeat against a very strong side. Our boys, who most have only being playing for 1-2 years are playing these matches like they've been playing all their lives with a 4-2 victory over a strong Clarkston team and 6-0 victory over a very respectable Kirkhill side. One more to go against Queens Park on Friday 17th so a solid victory is needed to give hope of a first place victory!

I will post an update on Facebook with the final two results of the junior matches

Well done to all the boys so far!!
