EULTC Hosts Team Challenge

Development Matches Underway

This weekend saw EULTC hosting the first Tennis Foundation Team Challenge of the year. The EULTC are dedicated to giving more members (recreation) players opportunities to play competitive tennis and we believe events such as the Team Challenge are going to be key in club integration and getting more students involved within the sport.

We saw four establishments taking part in a mixed doubles on the indoors of Craiglockhart Tennis Centre, which directly followed the SSS Student Tennis Forum in which Edinburgh University were presenting.

  • Edinburgh University

  • Queen Margaret University

  • Stirling University

  • Strathclyde University

The competition format;

Each court had four pairs competing in a mixed doubles timed tennis league, with an additional court just for men's doubles due to a large number of male sign ups. On your court each pair would have to play each other and every time you won a game it would be added to your overall league total. Each match lasted a total of ten minutes so there was a lot of emphasis on trying to finish off games quickly to earn league points!

The top two teams from each league would then face-off and playing each other in championship tie-break to determine who finished 1st to 4th. First place on each court would play each other for first and second, then the teams that finished second fought for that third place medal. Congratulations and thanks to all those that were involved, and in particular to our winners - Nick Thomas (Edi) and Tess Ciarcia (Edi) 🏆

In the men's doubles five teams fought it out in what was an extremelely close league table. Similar to above all pairs included in this event had to play each other and every time you won a game it was added to your league score. In the end Justin (QMU) and Leo (QMU) took a demanding lead after some Federesque tennis. The dream team parternship of Stirling, Edinburgh and Strathclyde didn't stand a chance.

Hopefully everyone that entered the event enjoyed themselves and are available for the next tie!
